Offshore Renewables: Engineering a Custom Overboarding Chute for Cable Deployment

We recently completed the design and engineering of a bespoke overboarding chute for use in the renewable energy sector. This specialist piece of equipment was designed to assist with critical cable deployment and retrieval during offshore operations.

In the fast-paced world of offshore wind and subsea power, equipment must be both incredibly robust and operationally efficient. Our custom design features a hinged base, allowing for rapid deployment and stowage, drastically improving efficiency during vessel mobilisations.

Our Offshore Engineering Scope

At Odysea Engineering Consultants Ltd, we provide the technical rigour required for marine environments. For this overboarding chute, our scope included:

  • Structural Design to DNV Standards: Engineered to meet stringent DNV maritime standards, ensuring the equipment can withstand the dynamic loads of the North Sea.

  • 3D Modelling & Digital Assets: We developed a high-fidelity 3D structural model for the client’s Digital Asset Register, aiding in long-term maintenance and clash detection.

  • Fabrication Drawing Package: Delivery of a full General Arrangement (GA) and detailed fabrication drawing set, optimised for local manufacturers.

  • Method Statements: Provision of a comprehensive installation and handling method statement to ensure safe deployment on the vessel deck.

Supporting the East of England Energy Cluster

As an active participant in the regional supply chain, we are proud to align ourselves with the East of England Energy Group (EEEGR). We are committed to supporting the "all-energy" ambitions of the region from the gas fields of the Southern North Sea to the massive offshore wind farms being staged out of Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft.

Based at the Hethel Engineering Centre (NR14 8FB), Odysea serves as a key offshore structural engineering consultant for EEEGR members and the wider energy cluster. Whether you need temporary works engineering for a port-side mobilisation or FEA engineering consultancy for subsea assets, we provide the independent expertise needed to keep the UK’s energy sector moving.
