Solar Support Structure for Aid to Navigation System

We’re pleased to share a project we have completed for a Client in the Energy sector, showcasing our practical problem-solving in action.

The challenge? The Client needed to install a new solar powered Aid to Navigation system (AtoN) on an offshore asset. Due to very limited deck space a normal installation wasn’t feasible.

The solution? A custom, modular grillage to enable the PV array to be mounted to the top of a shipping container.

Our scope included:
✅ Structural design of the PV array frames and supporting steelwork
✅ Global checks on stability and the load imparted into the deck
✅ 3D modelling and fabrication drawings

This solution powers a critical aid to navigation system, with the control system stored safety inside the container – helping to guide vessels safely in all conditions.
